About Walking in Languedoc

1. Our aim

This is quite simple...
Firstly, to bring you the

best hiking, hill-walking, trekking and rambling tours in the Languedoc and Provence regions of Southern France.

See our complete product range.

Secondly, not to penalise single travellers with supplements. All our prices are based on one person travelling. However, we are delighted to offer discounted rates for additional travellers who might accompany you.

Thirdly, to look after all the related logistics so that you can simply enjoy your well-earned walking holiday or hiking vacation.

Fourthly, you tell all your friends what a great time you had, how well organised things were and how fit and refreshed you felt upon your return home!

2. Our Business

Walking in Languedoc is an English tour operator that specialises in bringing you original walking tours in the South of France. These walking holidays have been designed by us to sell to you at excellent value for money.

This is an Anglo-French family business. The Family runs operations on both sides of the Channel, and that means retired mums and dads with time to spare, sister-in-law at the bank, plus uncles and cousins. We've got two very young bi-lingual daughters, so you can see that we think long term.

We are qualified in, and passionate about, hillwalking and have walked every walking tour we offer on several ocassions. Only the best circular walks or point-to-point treks have made it into our commercial portfolio.

3. Circular Trails

With the exception of out Trekking Holidays, the majority of our daily walking trails comprise circular routes or "boucles" as the French call them. This brings certain advantages:

a) Walks generally start and finish from your hotel or car for greater convenience;

b) Trails are selected on the basis of quality of experience alone, not the requirement to get from A to B;

c) They can often be shortened or lengthened - concentric circles, then - which takes the slog out of walking tours and empowers you to do the version you want to on a certain day.

4. Trail classification

For categorisation purposes...

i) 'Hiking' and 'Rambling' equals light or short circular walking trails;

ii) 'Trekking' means moderately challenging to challenging, inn-to-inn trails;

iii) 'Walking' comprises moderately-challenging to challenging trails that are normally a combination of circular walking paths and inn-to-inn trails.

A moderately challenging vacation may have a light-walking day as a rest day, or feature one challenging day to train you up for the next level. On the other hand, a challenging holiday might have a light-walking or a moderately challenging day as a rest day. We are available to discuss such details at any time, in order to help you to customise our hillwalking, coastal and urban tours as much as possible to your requirements.

5. Empowerment

This is a major benefit of travelling with
Walking in Languedoc
:

* You choose how long to stay in each place and so set your own pace.

* Holidaying on a pay-as-you-go basis for accommodation and food provides you with real benefits:
i) Enhanced freedom: you eat what you want, when you want; you choose the compositon of your 'packed lunch' and can opt for the vegetarian meal rather than the customary 'produits du terroir' every night. We have listened to our customers, who tell us they do not wish to be tied to eating in their hotel in the evening, unless there is no other choice available!
ii) Financial savings: you do not pay marked-up hotel prices. Furthermore, you are not paying for hotels months in advance - although some may ask for a deposit in the high season.

* Our Insight Notes™ keep you on track and well informed, whether you want to use a map and compass or not. Orientation is made easy.

* Our hiking and rambling holidays and vacations, which require a car, offer even higher empowerment levels due to the extra control over your own transportation throughout your hiking vacation. You can also go further afield in the evenings to maximise your options and optimise your experience.

* No single supplements in our pricing. So you can decide whether to travel alone or accompanied based on criteria other than cost.

6. Themes

All our walking holiday tours are endowed with a theme for added enjoyment and coherence. Your dossier will bring your hiking vacation to life. You are free to explore the theme to the depth you choose and your learning can continue back home.

7. Transport and luggage options to suite your preferences

a) Hiking or Rambling vacations require a hire car or you can use your own car. Hire cars can be collected from your point of entry to France. Not only do you enhance your control over your holiday, with no baggage handlers, but you see a wider geographical area, with greater evening mobility. Not to mention the chance to enjoy driving again on the French open roads!

b) Trains are used in some of our hill-walking experiences. They are great fun, economical, ecological and a reliable way to get around.

c) Luggage transfers are required on all Walking holidays, with the exception of Walking with the Cévennes Railway, where you accompany your luggage as you travel up the line to your next destination. They are also required on our trekking tours with the exception of The Saint-Gilles Way, where they are optional.

Luggage transfers are booked and paid for by
Walking in Languedoc.

8. Your money is safe

All passengers booking with us are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently the balance of all monies paid to us arising from the cancellation or curtailment of your holiday in the unlikely event of our insolvency.

9. Responsible Travel

We practise responsible travel and play our role in nurturing eco-responsible travellers. This includes a commitment not to cut down trees to print glossy brochures. Click to read our article, which is also available on the excellent e-zine, Natural Choices.
