1. Theme
This is one of our urban walking tours in Provence that combines exciting urban cultural hikes in Avignon, Orange and Villeneuve-les-Avignon with scenic strolls in their hinterlands. Rambling in Provence explores two millennia of history and architecture and you get to appreciate it from close and afar - some stunning views are in store.
Those of you who like art and paintings will have the opportunity to enjoy the feast of museums in Avignon in the afternoon. Rambling in Provence also brings you the delights of following the trail of Derain, Chabaud, Klingst and Masereel on one of our short bucolic hikes.
2. Model 7-night rambling Provence tour
Day 1. Orange.
Arrival and hike to City vantage point, Sainte Autrope.
Day 2. Orange. 10 kms-6.5 miles.
Urban hike of the historic Roman centre plus the parts linked to the Dutch House of Nassau.
Day 3. Villeneuve-Les-Avignon. 8 kms-5 miles.
Transfer to Villeneuve followed by a 5-mile bucolic hike with a breathtaking vantage point, before exploring Villeneuve’s architectural cache.
Day 4. Villeneuve-Les-Avignon. 6 kms-4 miles.
Choose one of Villeneuve’s bucolic paths (5, 8 or 14-mile options) with views of the river Rhône and surrounding landmarks. The longest option is a walk around the largest river island in France.
Day 5. Hiking with the Painters.10 kms-6 miles.
Transfer to the hilltop village of Les Angles for a hike though its glorious painting heritage. Follow in the footsteps of some renowned artists, see the fruits of their work and hike a fine bucolic trail to discover some of the Region’s rich flora.
Day 6. Avignon. Options.
Transfer to Avignon for a masterclass in urban hiking on our tried and tested tour around the main central historic landmarks, including the Pope's Palace and the Pont St Benezet.
Day 7. Avignon – Options
Either visit the museums of your choice or enjoy a hike enabling you to better understand the City’s structure and organization.
Day 8. End of your hiking Provence tour.

3. Accommodation
You stay in three excellent hotels en route in order to reduce travelling time to a minimum. Hikes start and finish from your hotel for greater convenience.
These are your three overnight stops and the number of nights you stay in each: 1. Orange - two nights in a 2-star hotel; 2. Villeneuve-Les-Avignon - three nights in a 2-star hotel; 3. Avignon - two nights in a 3-star hotel.
