1. Theme

Trekking the Essential Stevenson is a fabulous 3-day hiking tour and the three best days walking in Southern France along The Robert Louis Stevenson trail. This Lozerian trek, from La Bastide to Florac, is a journey of 70 kilometres or around 46 miles.

This 'very best of' walking Southern France gives you the finest trails from one of the top ten French walking tours. You enjoy the delights of Mont Lozere and the 'chemin des crêtes’ that leads you down into the Cevennes valleys.

The Essential Stevenson comes packaged with four nights' stay in the best hotels en route, a ride on the Cevenol mountain railway and return transfers to Nimes airport or SNCF station.

    2. Model 4-night Essential Stevenson

    Day 1. LA BASTIDE.

    Arrival in Nimes, train to La Bastide and hotel check-in. Early birds get to enjoy a hike to Notre Dame de la Neige, where Stevenson stayed for three nights.

    Day 2. LA BASTIDE PUYLAURENT to LE BLEYMARD.17 miles-26 kms

    You climb to the highest point of the walking tour so far, cross the watershed between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, and head down valley to picture-postcard Chasseradès. Then you enter the Cevennes proper, with some great views and the chance to see the source of the Lot River.

    Day 3. LE BLEYMARD to PONT DE MONTVERT. 12 miles-18 kms.

    An early start is advised for this memorable walk across Mont Lozere, with the option to climb Le Pic de Finiels (1699 ms). Then descend to Le Pont de Montvert and Camisard Country. If you want an interesting rest day, this (or Florac) is your place.

    Day 4. PONT DE MONTVERT to FLORAC. 17.5 miles-26 kms.

    The longest and most challenging day of the tour is blessed with some memorable views over the heart of the Cevennes.

    Day 5. End of your walking tour.

    And the end of a memorable trek. Au revoir et bon retour.
