Our inn to inn walking holidays in France
We have a range of France trekking tours that offers something for everyone. These holidays are reproduced below, with relevant prices and what's included in each. Click through to each Trekking tour for further information via the photos or tour title.
Firstly, we use trekking to define our inn-to-inn walking tours in France. You are walking a linear trail and, from the moment you commence your trek until you reach the last welcoming hotel, all logistics are catered for by ourselves. B & B is included in the package, which leaves you free to purchase what you want to eat for the remaining meals. All relevant information concerning restaurants and provision points is in your dossier.
We include luggage transfers from hotel to hotel, although those wishing to backpack are welcome to do so at a discounted rate. POA as they say.
As for the trekking itself, our France trekking tours are guaranteed to provide a trekking master class, welcoming accommodation at each stop along the way, and excellent food to boot.
If you are looking for a moderately-challenging hike into the stunning scenery of the remote Massif Central and Cevennes, we would recommend The Robert Louis Stevenson Trail – one of the best trekking tours France has to offer, and now rated as one of the world's most famous travel adventures by Forbes.com. Whether you collect such treks for a hobby, or only plan to do one such hike in your lifetime, this seminal trail, an inspiration to the whole modern social hiking movement, is simply a must. You can, of course, opt for ‘The Best of..’ or we are happy to 'chunk' the trail so that it fits within your day's walking capacity.
The St Giles Way is a forgotten medieval pilgrimage route that commences in more or less the same place as The Stevenson Trail, but heads due south rather than meandering across the Cevennes hills. It’s remote at the start, but less and less so as you approach Ales, where our main tour ends. Those wishing to walk the whole route onto the town of St Gilles itself, in north Camargue, will need a further four days. It’s undulating lowland and not to be attempted in the searing heat of July and August!
The Regordane is a 68-mile section of the St Giles Way. Whether you walk the more modern path, or opt for the medieval trail (weather permitting), you will walk a French history book that covers 1000 years of the life and times of rural and mercantile France. It’s light-to-moderate trekking that takes you from the Lozerean plateau down into the valleys of the eastern Cevennes and The Gard. This trek sets the standard for historical France Trekking tours.
Trekking Huguenots Trails is a fascinating opportunity to learn about the religious war that took place in the Cevennes three hundred years ago. You walk the moderately-challenging trails and visit the main sites that made history during what became known as the Camisard War. It is an excellent trek with a very strong theme and should appeal to many who are fascinated to learn how such a bloody conflict could have taken place in Le Midi half a century after the Albigensien Crusade. Many of the Huguenots fled to Northern Europe and onto a new life in the fledgling USA and many Americans, British, Dutch and Swiss can trace their forefathers back to the Wars of Religion.
Trekking France's Garrigue is a light-trekking holiday, ideal for those who love inn-to-inn walking without the ups and downs of hill-walking. The Garrigue, with its undulating topography and pretty villages, is perfect for hikers who prefer to stay close to civilisation whilst striding out during the day-time.
All ‘Trekking tours France’ can be personalised to suit on demand, so feel free to ask.
